The hand-operated foot valve pump set with a tripod is used for well development, purging of the monitoring well filters, and for sampling these wells up to 50 metres. The diameter of the monitoring well varies from 25 millimetres to 150 millimetres. It is also used for the sampling of both volatile substances and trace elements.
The foot valve pump consists of a tube with a ball valve and a tripod with lever. There are two sizes of ball valves: 18 millimetres external for tube 12 x 16 millimetres and 12 millimetres external for low-cost replaceable LDPE tube 8 x 10 millimetres.
Once submerged in water, the tube should be moved up- and downward relatively fast. By connecting the tubes to a lever, the weight of the water-filled tubes will be reversed so that you need not carry the weight. On the contrary, your arm will be lifted slightly. This way pumping requires little effort and can be sustained much longer. You can stand upright during the operation, so an ergonomically sound movement is guaranteed. In between, you also have the opportunity to rest. The foot valve pump has no suction, so no water level depth limit.
The hinge point of the lever can be moved quickly, in this way the stroke lever ratio can be adjusted which makes it possible to work efficiently at all times. The lever hinges on a tripod of which the height can be adjusted. This makes it possible to take samples from wells fitted with a shaft type well cover, as well as street type well covers.
The tube connection is universal; different sizes of tubes and valves can be applied. The tube should at least have the rigidity of polyethylene. Also, Teflon tubes can be used.
Please note that when you install a pipe instead of a tube you can also use this device in larger wells. When pump movement is situated in filter section of well, the water is very turbid.
