Bentonite can be used to seal boreholes or close up old monitoring wells, or create a hydrological seal around the monitoring well pipe. It's available in both pellets and plugs. Bentonite is highly absorbent and will swell once it comes into contact with water, creating a natural 'plug' where inserted in the soil.
