‘Why sonic drilling at tailings is better than other ways of drilling? For a lot of reasons, but the most important for us are that sonic preserves the core structure better. We can drill a bigger core size and we have the options to drill dry or with a minimum amount of water. And finally, we get a higher recovery and a higher performance/penetration rate. We have a CompactRotoSonic Crawler (CRS-V). This drilling rig comes with a medium roto sonic head 34k with a safety cage, pipe manipulator, water pump and main winch. But there are more options available.’
‘We drilled for Rare Earth Elements, Kaolin, Iron Ore, Titanium, Bauxite in tailings and for exploration drilling. Recently we drilled at a Iron Ore producer in Brazil. The soil consisted of fine material saturated in water with boulders. We used the sonic drilling technique and reached a maximum depth of 50 meters. Most of the times we drilled dry and used water when we had to drill through harder material. Daily we reached averages between 25 and 50 meters, achieving up to 10 meters per hour, depending on the soil formation.’
