Gouge auger set - for stepwise sampling

04.04

The gouge auger set for stepwise sampling is used for profile research (nitrate research) in soils with a somewhat higher penetration resistance. The set contains three two-piece gouge augers with different diameters.

  • Environmental and archaeological soil research
  • Soil sampling above groundwater table
  • Gouges 1.6/1.2/0.8 inch (40, 30 and 20 mm) of 11.8 inch (30 cm) net length
  • Start large and finish narrow to limit pulling up force
  • For soils with a somewhat higher penetration resistance

Description

The set consists of three two-piece gouge augers with different diameters. By first taking a sample with the gouge with the largest diameter and subsequently with gouges having smaller diameters, cross-contamination among the samples is avoided. The gouges have a diameter of 1.6 - 1.2 - 0.8 inch (40, 30 and 20 millimeters) with a net length of 11.8 inch (30 centimeters.)

The gouge augers can be pushed into the soil or hammered with an impact absorbing hammer. Because of the short operational length and the decreasing diameters, the set is most suitable for profile research (nitrate research) in soils with a somewhat higher penetration resistance. For example, to sample the top of agricultural land to a depth of 35.4 inch (90 centimeters.)

Applications

  • Soil sampling above groundwater table
  • Archaeological soil research
  • Environmental soil research
